What is Hyperhidrosis?
Hi everyone welcome to my mini site on educating people about the condition of excessive sweating.
Sweating
Sweating or better known as perspiration, is a natural occurence performed by the human body.Sweating is good
Sweating allows release of heat build up in our body. We tend to heat up on the following situations:- Walking - short or long distance
- Working at the gym
- Doing household chores
- Hot weather
- Sick
- Under stress - physically and emotionally
- Any other activities requiring exertion of effort
Our sweat glands secretes fluid and releases it via the skin pores. When the sweat reaches the surface of the skin and with a gentle breeze of wind, cooling effect takes place.
Sweating Excessively
This is a medical condition where a sufferer perspire profusely with no apparent reason. Even in cold weather or inside an AC room. This medical condition does not require exertion of effort at all. This condition is Hyperhidrosis. This is not a life threatening situation but could be very annoying and socially devastating. What Causes Excessive Sweating?
An overactive sweat sweat gland but the reason why is still unknown. It is like a light bulb that is always "ON."Is there a cure for Hyperhidrosis?
Sad to say but IMHO from what i have learned, there is NO CURE YET. The medical community is just beginning to understand the condition and research are ongoing. There are others who claim they have the procedures to cure Hyperhidrosis -like BOTOX and ETS (Endoscopic Thoracic Sympathectomy). This would require repeating the procedure every six months. This is a very expensive option. Why would a sufferer return for a repeat session when a person is already healed. Is it because they are very much aware that it will recur? This is marketing hype. They should have told the patient in the first place that it is NOT A CURE but a treatment to manage or minimize excessive sweating.
I am neither against the invasive procedures nor am i for it. I just wish those who offered it to be truthful.
Is Botox or ETS for me?
If you are seriously considering this procedures, please considering answering this simple question first:
Question: When did you learn of your condition?
If you answered, just now or i am still learning about the condition, i believe you haven't tried the non invasive medication yet. There is a step ladder treatment to dealing with your condition. Start from the basic or bottom of the ladder, if nothing seems to work only then will you take the next level and so on.
If you've known your condition for a long time and nothing seems to be working, the procedure is probably for you. Consult your family trusted physician.
First thing first
- Inform your family about your condition
- Bring along a love one when seeking advice from a professional
- Check out the clinic where the procedure will be performed
- Check out the walls of the clinic and secretly look for certificates and accreditation
- Asked the doctor or derma how long has she/he has been performing the procedure
- Asked politely if you can have names of patient (i doubt if they will give it) who undergone the same procedure from their clinic.
- Ask about the cost of the procedure
- Ask for possible or known side effects
- Ask for insurance coverage
If you did all the extra measure that i listed, you are just half way thru. The other half is the procedure.
What you need to know about the procedure
We have different body chemistry, what worked on others does not necessarily mean it will work on you too. We can only hope for the best.
You are probably interested to know if i will undergo the same procedure. Well it will depend on my state of mine. Six months without excessive sweating is heavenly for me. But because i have not reached an intolerable level of social embarassment, yet.
The answer is maybe not. I am contented with Non Invasive All Natural Alternative medication. I have made my own formulation in the form of a soap. This soap helped me manage my underarm excessive sweating and control my under arm body odor for 3 straight years.
